About

[Palisades Hammond Fence](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/) offers and manages fence and gate installation, replacement and repair across Hammond and the towns within about 25 miles in Tangipahoa, western St. Tammany and eastern Livingston parishes, for homes, farms and commercial properties. Installation is carried out by licensed and insured fence contractors.

## The work

Everything here concerns fences and gates: wood, vinyl, chain link, aluminum and wrought iron fences, pool barriers, walk, driveway and automatic gates, farm, horse and pipe fencing, commercial fencing, and the repairs and replacements that follow wind, rot and termites. A project starts with the property line, the rule for the address and the post plan, and ends with a walk of the finished line. The [fence services page](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-services/) lists every service.

- [Fence installation](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-installation/): New wood, vinyl, chain link, aluminum and steel fences, laid out to the local rules and built on a post plan for wet ground and storm wind.
- [Wood fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/wood-fence-installation/): Pressure-treated pine, cedar and cypress fences in dog-ear, board-on-board, shadowbox, picket and horizontal styles, on posts set for wet ground.
- [Fence replacement](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-replacement/): Old fence and footings out and hauled away, boundary markers protected, and a new fence built to fix what made the old one fail.
- [Fence repair](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-repair/): Wood, vinyl, chain link and metal fences repaired part by part, after finding whether one component failed or the whole line is wearing out.
- [Storm damage repair](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/storm-damaged-fence-repair/): Blown-down, leaning and tree-struck fences assessed post by post, documented for a claim, and rebuilt on footings that suit wet ground and wind.
- [Post replacement](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-post-replacement/): Single rotted, leaning or snapped posts replaced, old concrete dealt with, and a matched post set in a footing that sheds water at grade.
- [Gate repair](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/gate-repair/): Sagging, dragging and unlatched gates fixed at the cause: hinge post, hardware, frame, latch alignment or drop rods.
- [Privacy fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/privacy-fence-installation/): Solid and semi-private wood and vinyl fences, 6 to 8 ft behind the house, planned for sightlines, storm wind and wet ground.
- [Board-on-board fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/board-on-board-fence/): Overlapping-board privacy fences and open shadowbox fences that stay closed as the wood dries, on rails and posts sized for the extra boards.
- [Wind-resistant fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/wind-resistant-fence/): Privacy and open fences detailed for storm wind: heavier or steel posts, shorter bays, stronger rail connections and corrosion-proof fasteners.
- [Vinyl fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/vinyl-fence-installation/): PVC privacy, semi-privacy and picket fences with reinforced bottom rails and gate posts, laid out in panel modules and set for heat, wind and wet soil.
- [Chain link fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/chain-link-fence-installation/): Galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link for back yards, dogs and property lines, with braced terminal posts, a bottom tension wire and posts spaced to Hammond's code.
- [Aluminum fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/aluminum-fence-installation/): Powder-coated ornamental aluminum for front yards, pools and pets, racked to follow slopes, with stainless fasteners and gate posts sized for the leaf.
- [Pool fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/pool-fence-installation/): Pool barriers in aluminum, steel, vinyl or wood with self-closing, self-latching gates, planned with the pool permit and built to the barrier rule confirmed for your address.
- [Gates](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/gate-installation/): Walk, garden and double gates in wood, vinyl, chain link and metal, sized to what passes through and hung on posts built to carry them.
- [Driveway gates](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/driveway-gate-installation/): Manual single-leaf and double-leaf driveway gates in wood, steel, aluminum and chain link, sized for the vehicles that use them and hung on posts built for the weight.
- [Farm fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/farm-fence-installation/): Woven field fence, barbed wire and high-tensile wire for pasture, livestock and acreage, on braced corners and posts set for wet ground.
- [Horse fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/horse-fence-installation/): Board, rail and no-climb mesh fencing for horse pastures, paddocks and turnout pens, with braced corners, smooth faces and gates planned for horses and tractors.

- [Commercial fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/commercial-fence-installation/): Security chain link, ornamental steel and aluminum, and solid buffer screens for businesses and institutions, with vehicle gates and Hammond's commercial fence rules built in.
- [Fence staining](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/fence-staining/): Cleaning, staining and sealing wood fences, new or weathered, with the finish and timing matched to Hammond's sun, heat and rain.
- [Automatic gates](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/automatic-gate-installation/): Swing and slide gate operators with the power, access controls and entrapment protection a powered gate needs, on a gate built to be automated.
- [Split rail fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/split-rail-fence-installation/): Two- and three-rail mortised split rail fences for boundaries, frontage, drives and garden edges, with posts set to resist rot in wet ground.
- [Horizontal fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/horizontal-fence-installation/): Modern horizontal board and slat fences in cedar or treated pine, framed on short spans so they stay straight, with gapped or tight faces.
- [Picket fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/picket-fence-installation/): Front-yard wood picket fences built to Hammond's 4 ft limit and Covington's historic district guidelines, primed, painted or stained, with walk gates.
- [Wrought iron fences](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/wrought-iron-fence-installation/): Ornamental steel fences and gates in the wrought iron style, from galvanized prefab panels to custom fabricated work, finished and detailed to keep rust off in a wet climate.
- [Emergency fence repair](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/emergency-fence-repair/): A fence down across a drive, a pool barrier open or animals able to get out: the line is made safe and the gap closed, then the permanent repair is planned.

## The rules the work follows

Palisades Hammond Fence sets up and manages each project. These are the standards and rules that shape it:

- **City permit and height rules.** In the City of Hammond, a fence needs a permit before it goes up. Front-yard fences are limited to 4 ft and may not be chain link or barbed wire, fences behind the front of the house may reach 8 ft, and nothing over 3 ft may stand within 30 ft of a street intersection (Unified Development Code 4.1.8). Covington and the other towns set their own rules, and each plan follows the jurisdiction the address sits in.
- **Licensed and insured fence contractors.** Installation is carried out by licensed and insured fence contractors. Louisiana requires an LSLBC home improvement registration for residential projects from $7,500 to $50,000, and a license above that.
- **Louisiana 811 before digging.** State law requires notice to Louisiana 811 at least 48 hours, and no more than 120 hours, before any excavation, weekends and holidays not counted. Augering a post hole counts (R.S. 40:1749.13).
- **Posts set for wet ground and wind.** Around Hammond the soils are mostly poorly drained silt loams, with the seasonal water table within about a foot of the surface at most points sampled. Post size, depth and footing are chosen for that ground, the height and face of the fence and the weight of each gate.
- **Shared fences and servitudes.** A fence on a boundary is presumed common to both neighbors under Louisiana Civil Code article 685, and Hammond's standard plat note bars fences that interfere with a drainage or utility servitude. Both are settled on the drawing, before posts go in.

## How pricing works

Typical Hammond-area ranges per linear foot are published on the [home page](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/) and in the [fence installation cost guide](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/guide/fence-installation-cost/), and the [cost estimator](https://palisadeshammondfence.com/tools/fence-cost-estimator/) gives a range before anyone visits. The price for a specific property comes in a written estimate after the site visit, once the line, gates, slope, soil and drainage are measured. Fences have no rebate program, so none is claimed.
